Background
We generally avoid the LA basin at all costs, for
a variety of reasons, mostly the dense traffic. But, a
family member was ill and our presence was requested.
So, we decided that we would piggy-back our family visit with
seeing the local sights. The plan was to do family
business and then head into WeHo (West Hollywood) for some
recreational activities. Our agenda was a visit to the
world-famous Peterson Automotive Museum and then to the WWII
battleship U.S.S. Iowa in Long Beach the following
day.
We stayed the first night in Anaheim to provide for plenty of
visiting time and then headed into the Peterson and WeHo the
following day. Kathleen selected a boutique hotel across
from the Farmer's Market which put us in close walking
distance for our dinner reservations that night. The
following day we slugged-it-out on the freeway down to Long
Beach to see the Iowa and then followed the coast highway back
to San Diego.
Details
The link
table below contains links to the photos and dialog for each
of the days of the trip. A variety of cameras were used
including my Sony A1, and, of course, the ubiquitous iPhone.
Conclusions
We enjoyed WeHo and
saw some "colorful" folks in our walks around the area.
There are plenty of top-flight restaurants in the area
although they are a bit pricey. The Farmer's Market is
"interesting" if you are into that sort of thing. The
U.S.S. Iowa is worth seeing if you are into historical things
and are in the area. It is one-of-a-kind. Traffic
in the LA basin can be trying, even in the best of
times. We nearly got sideswiped, so should your travels
take you to the area, drive with care.
