The Trip

While I was doing work things, Kathleen took the camera and headed out to see the sights in Munich. Later in the afternoon, we met up and she joined us for a visit to the Munchen Hofbrau beer garden. The place was packed beyond belief, perhaps 10,000 folks, but all well behaved. They were there to have a few liters of beer and watch the World Cup games on the (very) large screen TV. The shots below are what we saw.

A view of the "underground" station. As contrasted to the NY subway system, this is very clean and new.

In NY, you would have stairs. Here, you have an escalator.

A stone gargoyle as part of a fountain.

More odd stone work.

A view of the stained glass in one of the cathedrals.

A good view of the stonework in the church. Note the heads in the wall: these are likenesses of the stone masons who were on the construction team.

A scale model of Munich. They say it is a map for the blind, but frankly it seems a bit heavy to carry around. The good news is that they can read it in the dark. Note the likeness of the church towers at the rear of the map.

An inside view of one of the churches.

A view of thet main chamber in the church. Note the statues on the wall.

A view of the paintings on the ceiling of the cathedral.

Another view of one of the many beer gardens. Here, Kathleen drank two (2) liters of beer by herself at one sitting. She told me later that she was "thirsty".

A locked area for your sacred beer stein.

A colorful view of a variety of hot peppers for sale in the street market.

In the town center area.

A wolf's head fountain.

A statue of Maxmillian on Maxmillianstrasse.

One of the nice statues in the area.

Furniture made from wine corks. While it may not be that comfortable, after finishing all that wine, who would care?

One of the fountains with nice flowers at the perimeter.

I think this person had "toe-lio". I belive that this player was named Spike. Who can say what this is except "art".

The crowd in the beer garden was well behaved. This is why. Security was heavy, there were tons of armed police.

The gardens were packed. The structure in the center is what is called the "Chinese Tower". The garden was many acres, all filled with this density of folks.

The team before we get too deep into work discussions.

The team after a few beers. L to R: Bill, Mike, Eric, Todd, Matthias, Thomas, Peter.

The fuel for the beer gardens. There were many pallets of (empty) kegs and a forklift to move them.

Epilog

We had a yet great walkabout. While I did not join during the day, the evening made up for it.
