The Trail

This set of photos are from Moab Rim.  This trail is just plain scary.  Huge ledges, off camber and if you roll, you head to the bottom of the canyon over the edge of the cliff of perhaps 50 feet (depending on where you hit).  Just plain scary.  There have been many accidents on this trail.  Doing it in a short wheelbase truck like the 411 just made it scarier..

The Photos

The reality was that I was so fully consumed by driving in my 411 "minimog" that I did not get a chance to take photos of the trail, per se.  The 411 has manual steering.  Damaged manual steering. Therfore, the amount of effort required to steer was substantial.  That and the fear of the trail pretty much commanded my full attention.

Once we got to our lunch stop, and I regained my sanity, I got the camera.  Most of the photos below are of the petroglyphs in the upper rim area.

A herd of sheep, immortalized in stone.

There were many sheep petroglyphs.

A stylized deer with cloven hooves.  And a fight.

An indian structure at the top of the point.  We had to ascend a small cliff to get here.

The structure is on the upper plateau, left of center.  Wall is visible.

My 411 Unimog (aka "minimog").

The other side of the 411.  Note the missing door.

It was a white knuckle ride home.  The short wheelbase of the 411 makes every down-bump exciting.  But, we did get home without injury or damage.  We went back to the Slickrock Campground to relax, tell stories and prepare for the next day.
